The Wedding Rehearsal

Thursday, January 13, 2011 6:42:35 PM America/Los_Angeles

After all the preparations and detailed planning for the wedding are done. Now it's time for this happy and important rehearsal, for the main event. Afterwards a rehearsal dinner for the bridal party, their wives, husbands, fiances, both sets of parents, and perhaps a few out-of-town guests would be great.

The presence of all the members of wedding party is a must at the church, along with the officiating officer, organist, singer , church wedding director and of course the wedding coordinator (if any).

There are few plans and decisions to be made, based on the suggestion and advice of the wedding director:

wedding_rehearsal

 1.  If  there will be a maid and matron of honor, the bride should decide which one will hold the boquet during the ceremony. The bride must also decide who will hold the groom's ring if you're having a double ring ceremony.

2.   There should be preference of step for the bridesmaids to be use in the processional. The more natural, slow walk in time to the music is easier and more graceful.

3.  Decide if you want a singer to sing during the procession or just an organist playing a wedding march.

4.  During processional, the groom, best man and minister will enter the church from a side door and stand near the altar, looking toward the bride. Then the ushers or groomsmen walk down the aisle. They are followed by  the bridesmaids. Next is the maid or matron of honor.  Finally, the ring bearer followed by the flower girl.

5. Recessional: The couple, the flower girl along with the ring bearer will follow the bride and groom, then maid of honor, the flower girl along with the ring bearer, the bridesmaids paired with the best man. Then the bridesmaids and ushers. Lastly, the parents of the couple.

The Wedding Entourage - Ring Bearer

Saturday, January 8, 2011 10:52:30 PM America/Los_Angeles

In these present times, weddings are a lot like stage show – a big event with assortment of strut, sets and enactment. They are only few people involved in the vent, with dozens playing more involved parts. Between the parents the bride and groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen, the maid of honor and the best man, as well ushers, musicians, sponsors and the hosts, there a bundle of personality roles to instruct. That includes the two roles that can be neither the hardest nor the easiest to manage – the ring bearer and the flower girl.

ring_bearer

The ring bearer is usually a young boy and traditionally a child but they should be old enough that they can act together with adults they do not know and so that they can understand what their task is. However, it’s not exclusively uncommon to have a girl as a ring bearer. The main task of the ring bearer is they carry the ring pillow, on which the rings are sitting. It is suggested the pillow should be at least specifically made for the event as they will be likely to be sized and shaped appropriately for the role.

On the wedding day, during the ceremony the ring bearer will walk down the aisle before or with the flower girl. It is essential to keep in mind that the ring bearer is young enough to play the part but old enough to understand and hold the situation. Along with the flower girl they will likely to be the center of photos at least a few times over the course of the day.

The Wedding Entourage - Flower Girl

Tuesday, January 4, 2011 9:00:01 AM America/Los_Angeles

Wedding ceremony always have flower girl and the ring bearer, they maybe similar to an actual couple just like the best man and the made of honor.

Having more than one flower girl depend on the how formal the ceremony is, beside the choice of the bride and groom. In strict and highly formal and society wedding ceremonies, it’s common to have two flower girls at least, as part of the march.

Flower girls are usually picked by the couple. They can be their nieces or younger siblings and in some occasions children of friends.

flower_girl

Flower Girl’s Task

It is essential to instruct the flower girl what her role is on the ceremony and what she will be doing during the procession. The girl will be walking in front of the bride and either sprinkle flower petals from the basket or bag she is carrying or carry flowers along with her bouquet and then handling the flowers to the guests as she makes her way down the aisle.

Flower Girl’s Attire

In the old days, the girl’s dress has a similar color and design as the wedding gown. But these days, brides opt to dress them in cute and nice dresses same as the bride’s maids but in more child-appropriated clothing with ribbons, layers of tulle cloth and ball gown skirts.

Wedding hairstyles is one of the details that the bride-to-be should give importance too because hairstyle is the same as make up, it can make or break of how the bride would look like on her wedding day.

That’s why it is very important to consult your hairdresser about it and tell her what you wanted or even show her a picture of what hairstyle you wanted. Your hairdresser could give you advice if your choice will suit you or if not, she can tell you which hairstyles fit you best. Your hairstyle should complement your make up and your gown as well as the theme of the wedding.

Here are some hairstyle suggestions for both short and long hair.

Short hair

short_hairstyle

Bride with short should not worry of not having long hair on her wedding day, short hair is pretty and sophisticated and can be just as bridal as long hair.

If you have a short hair you can play with different hair accessories, you can consult your hairdresser on this. Hair accessories such as small comb with some embellishments on it would look great on your hair or using tiara is also a perfect choice.

 hair_accessory

Using fresh flowers for your hairstyle is quite old fashion you might thing but it’s a great way to lend a romantic, chic and feminine look to your short hair.  You can attach them to the veil, or place them around your head. If you are planning to wear flowers in your hair, make sure they match the bridal bouquet.

One more thing, why not wear a hat or use a birdcage veil? Definitely it will look pretty and sweet on short hair.

Long hair

long_hair_style

There are a lot  of ways to style of long hair.
If you have long hair , you can consider up-do’s. You can choose from French braid – it’s three-stranded braid woven close to the head, a Chignon – a tight knot at the base of the head or a Bun – hair are tied together into a ponytail then wrapped around itself. If you wanted to let your hair loose, try the curls and soft waves

Whatever hair length you have just remember that your hairstyle should make you look beautiful on your wedding day.

Wedding Etiquette

Sunday, November 21, 2010 5:58:25 AM America/Los_Angeles

For about to be wed couple, their wedding is one of the most important events in their lives. Although the wedding is the happiest occassion, it is easily  to get dismayed if the etiquette of all in the wedding are not given importance.  As early as now don't be the person who will ruin the formal ocassion. Learn the proper etiquette so that it would not be embarassing  on the special day for the couple.

Invitation

wedding_invitation

If  you are attending or not, the proper way to respond is to send right away the RSVP card earlier so that they know what is your reply to their invitation. If you are not attending , consider writing a small note or message along with the RSVP card just to let them know you're reason.

In addtion, do not think that you are automatically given a "plus one" or you can bring a companion with you, if the invitation is addressed only to your name it means you are the only invited.

If the invitation do not have "and family", it's not proper to ask the couple if you can bring your children or family.

It is very expensive to to have a wedding, it is not easy to have shell out  $ 10-20 per person in wedding reception. If you are the only one invited, then just attend alone.

Wedding Attire

evening_dress

Always follow the proper  dress that you will wear in attending a wedding. If it's written in the invitation that " White Tie", dress in a way that it seems you're attending an awards night. If it said "Black TIe", dress in a very formal way  that it's like you're attending a gala or ball party.

But if it's written in the invitation the " Black tie optional", it means you dress in way like you're attending a formal dinner party. If its stated that  "semiformal or casual", chose dresses in a way that you are atteding fancy anniversay dinner.

Alhough if you are not too sure , it is safer for the male  not to wear tie and for the male may opt for somple but chick coctail dress.

Wedding Gifts

wedding_gift

It's always better to know a month before the wedding, the gifts that the couple wanted to receive, usually bridal registry information card is included with the invitations. The safest way to buy gift is to look at the bridal registry  since the couple listed there what gifts they wanted to receive and what they need. If you buy gift just few days or a day before the wedding you may end up buying gift that the couple don't need.

The amount that you will spare for the gift will determine your relationship with the couple.  In a practical way  for officemate, for friend or relative living in far away place you can send gift that you think is just reasonable eough for your budget.

However, for friends or family members that live just near you. you can buy then gift that is a bit higher. While for close friends and immediate family members will be much higher.

The Proposal

Monday, November 1, 2010 10:24:47 PM America/Los_Angeles

Crystal and Glass FavorsYES!.. Finally she say the magic word. When a guy hear this word, they feel like they are in 7th heaven and maybe no words to  describe exactly how they feel.

Nowadays, more and more ways of proposing have been tried and done and actually works . It can be funny, formal , romantic and out of the box ideas.

Over the years  I have lots of stories from friends, acquaintances, and some were  from magazines about proposal for marrige. Here are some of them which I wanted to share.

1. Proposing over a candle light dinner- the guy tie the ring with a ribbon around a  flower and then the guy will ask the girl to say yes while  a romantic song is being played. This one is very common, though lots of people out there think that this is very romantic and still can melt a woman's heart.

2. Using the billboard - This one was use by a cousin of mine. He rented an ad space at downtown and asked someone to post a huge ad with printed words " will you marry me Allison?".

3. Internet and Online Proposal -  This is for the techie people nowadays. Some create a website,  some propose using a webcam ( this one is for those who met  on online dating). Using screesaver is also one of them. Uing an e-card is also being use, though this one is less appealing to my opinion.

4.  Adventurous Proposal- This include using extreme activities such as sky diving, bungee jumping and rafting.

5. Proposing thru games - A funny way of proposing for marriage. Using games such as treasure hunting like gving her a small map of your room or your backyard and putting some funny marks.

Wedding Ring

Sunday, October 3, 2010 1:09:35 AM America/Los_Angeles

wedding_ringExchanging of  wedding rings is seen as the heart of the weddig ceremony. The rings being created of a precious metal and often ornamented by precious stones is indicative of the significance it has as a symbol of immense loyalty and love. This traditions speaks of both lifetime and even eternal commitments.

Rings are designed accordingly to some out-of-ordinary meaning to the couple. There are rings inspired by Celtics. Engraving wedding rings is a great way to add special touch to this symbol of eternal love.  Some couple put their names and wedding date and other engrave bible verses that can bring both comfort and strength of conviction in times of trial or temptation.

In Western culture, the ring is worn on the left fourth finger, but it is worn on the same finger but on the right hand in other country and in some European countries, the wedding ring is the same as the engagement ring and changes its status through engraving and the change of the hand on which to wear it. But the most essential is the ring is given and worn, not in the particulars to which side of hand it is on. On the other hand men wearing wedding rings are a newer custom that grew repidly during the World War II, when soldiers are separated from their wives for long period of time and sought a symbolic reminder. Wedding rings has an unfathomable meaning, it speaks a lifetime and eternal commitment. The ring is a symbol in its roundness that the marriage they go through, has no end.

In Choosing Wedding Gown

Saturday, October 2, 2010 9:47:48 PM America/Los_Angeles

Selecting gown is one of the major things to consider and the most exciting aspects in wedding planning. Nowadays, wedding gowns are more beautiful than ever - all so pretty and lovely that is it hard to choose just a single one.

Along with this tradition, it naturally follows that many brides love the sentiment of wearing the gowns worn by their mothers, aunts, sisters or sometime by their grandmothers. If the gown is a heirloom, this is a big advantage already; however, call it "Ivory" if it has slightly yellowed.

Desingers are who are expert in creating wedding gown have both the vision and expertise to transform a size 10 gown to size six or less, and then challenge you to find the alteration points. Then the lace veil that is previously worn might not be becoming in it's original state, but it can be skillfully redesigned to flatter and delight you.

 Wedding Favors

1. Give it at least  four to six weeks if your gown is taylored fit to you or has to be ordered, then fitted.

2. Decide on how much you can comfortably spend for the gown.

3. Choose a wedding gown that is appropriate for the time of day, and consistent with the formality or informality of  the overall plan.

4. In consideration of wearing gloves, if the gown has long sleves there is no need for this.

5. Buy the wedding shoes and underthings before the fitting. Remember to break in the shoes.

6. After the gown is fitted. Don't immediately go on a crash diet. It might be too late that although you're body shrank, your gown did not.

7.  If the budget won't be stretch or enough as far as you would like, try some alternatives like: ready to wear gowns, end-of-season sales, discount outlets, rented gowns,

Wine Wedding Theme

Wednesday, September 22, 2010 12:53:40 AM America/Los_Angeles

My new client couple are wine lovers therefore, they are  choosing the Wine Wedding Theme. Their choice of location for ceremony and reception is none other than wine lover's paradise, Napa Valley. As a wedding planner of them, I share my opinions and suggestions about the theme. To start of with is the food choices, since it is a Wine Wedding Theme, they are choosing foods and menus that are great with wines. Foods that complements with the  variety of wines that they planned to be served during the reception. I reminded them that they have to ensure with the caterer that there will be no mismatch of wind and foor hence this will ruin the theme of the wedding.

Secondly, they are planning to coordinate the theme all throughout the wedding details. Wedding Invitations will be insipired by grapes and the color purple, actually the wedding will carry purple and some touch of green color theme like the bridesmaids'  and flower girls' dresses, head dress and boquets.

Purple Wedding Favors

For the reception, they are planning to use lighted candle wedding favors inspired also by grapes on the table  while the centerpieces will be variety of grapes and  a cork inspired place card holder will used.

 Candle Wedding Favors

The reception program will include a couple of games and for the winners they will give out complimentary wine tasting tickets at Napa Valley wineries. And lastly, the couple choose two kinds of wedding favors which are the wine corkscrews and bottle stopper

Wedding_Ceremony

In weddings, the  ceremony is the main event. This is the time where the couple will profess their love and vows. Therefore, it has to be done right!.

Here are some tips and things to consider in planning the ceremony:

  • The Wedding Ceremony: You have the options what ceremony will take place. It can be religious or civil. If you are choosing the religious set-up,  make sure you know and consider the different religious traditions.
  • The Location or Venue: It can be held in a church, garden, by the beach or any appropriate venue you choose.
  • The Guests: There are some instance when the guests you invited  in the reception is not necessarily have to be invited to the ceremony, but of course guests present in the ceremony should be invited to the the wedding reception. Who will you include on the lists? Will they be immediate family and closest friends or everyone.
  • The Wedding Rituals: You have to list down all of the things and details you want to take in the ceremony. These will include if not all : wedding vows and rings, unity rituals, marriage contract, offerings, ritual readings and some other things that are required if you choose the religious set-up.
  • The Wedding Party: Determine how may people do you  want to stand up with you. Take note, if you are going to have small group of guests, it will be a little bit odd if almost half of the people will stand up with you .
  • The Entourage: Choose the people who are close to you aside from your family of course. See to it that they really know you and can commit their attendance to the wedding.

The Bridal Bag

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 7:23:48 AM America/Los_Angeles

Through the years of planning weddings. I always suggested a small detail but very useful for the bride, that the bride shouldn't forget on her wedding day. And that is to have a small bag that she can carry with her during the big day, except during the wedding ceremony which she can ask one of her bridesmaids to hold for her.

The bride can use this bag as an emergency kit, because we will never know what will happen during the wedding. It is better to have back up plans than to be sorry later on.

So what are the things should be included in bride's bag?

*  make up  for some retouches
*  mint candies to freshen the breathe
spare earrings
*  antacid and headache medication
*  a tampon or a pad

The bag should be handy, it can be requested with the couturier to make a customized bag for the bride so it will blend well with the theme and with the bride's wedding gown.

*** this can be applied to bridesmaids too.

Something About The Wedding

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 6:00:25 AM America/Los_Angeles

When I was planning my sister's wedding and I am still a newbie in wedding planning world. There were some details I really researched about weddings. I even asked my mother's idead and she told me  that in every wedding there is this one practice that at least should be followed by the couple especially by the bride, and  that is what she called. "something" tradition. Here what she has told me, there should be:

Something Old

Which represents the life the couples are leaving behind while maintaining the connection from past to their new life. These can be any old stuff from your parents or grandparents, or better the bride's or groom's mother wedding gown or any jewelry from the family heirlooms.

Something New

This one convey new hope and affirmation. It is so easy to have these items, because majority of the details and items you will use in the wedding are new or customized.

 Something Borrowed

Borrowing from someone is not that difficult to do, but my mom said, the couple should borrow something from someone who is jovial or living a blissful life. For the reason that it is like borrowing happiness, so that their happiness will pass on to the couple.

Something Blue

The color is a symbol of good luck, fidelity, purity and loyalty. Finding an item in this color is also not difficult. Blue handkerchief, blue wedding garter or blue wedding favors are some of the few items can be considered.

Turning Japanese

Thursday, November 26, 2009 5:24:07 AM America/Los_Angeles

I have been busy lately preparing for three weddings. Each one of the bride is my friend and they do  have their own theme in mind and they wanted it to be executed perfectly by yours truly!. I could hardly get enough sleep because of these weddings.

Let me tell you about the first wedding that will happen on February, I am pretty execited  about this since it will be my first wedding event with a Japanese theme. The bride's name is Aiko, she is half-japanese but was born and raise in the west. She haven't visited Japan yet nor  speak the language. Therefore, for her up coming wedding she opted to have a  Japanese inspired wedding . It  will not follow the tradtion of Japanese wedding but she wanted her wedding to show her roots and her culture. As  usual,  for presentation purposes, I have collected some photos for her to choose from and give her some wonderful ideas.

To start with her wedding gown, if she wanted, she can wear the usual white wedding gown, though I suggested to her that she can stay away a bit from it and try some new designs with her dress. Since it would not be a traditional Japanese wedding, she could at least adopt some accents from a japanese wedding gown to her own  and even for her bridesmaids' dresses.

For  wedding ceremony, I got her these items from "the cherry blossom collection". Which are suited for the wedding; it has a ring pillow, pen set and flower girl basket. These items are all made of refined white linen that has been skillfully silk-screened with a design of sweeping branches of delicate cherry blossoms. The hand painted effect is further enhanced wih a romantic signature that makes use of the traditional Japanese character, when translated, means Love.

Wedding reception is of course is not an exception from the theme. The cherry blossoms vellum wine glass shade  will be perfect as a lovely table decor that brings an ambience of elegance. And then what is a wedding dinner without  wine to celebrate the couple's union, thus this unique wedding toasting flutes in a vase is also perfect. While the glass coaster wedding favors can be use at the dining table during the wedding reception.

Capture the special moments that are often missed by having these disposable cameras on hand at their festivities. The guests should be invited to snap photos throughout the celebration. Group multiple cameras on a table that is easy to access or set a single camera on each table alongside the centerpiece.

Delicate natural cherry blossom hand fans with detailed cherry blossom print with bamboo rib, are a beautiful favor idea. They are also very useful if the temperature goes up. Personalize them with a cherry blossom sticker along the rib.

Lastly, these "cherry blossom stationery collection" is a wonderful ideas. The collection includes; distinctive window cling, table number card, wedding bulletin, save the date card, favor gift tag and water bottle sticker.

 Omedetou!

(best wishes)
